Instructional Strategies with Table

In a modern classroom, no two students learn in the same way.  It is not uncommon to have a classroom with students with varying levels of academic abilities either.  In fact, not many students even think alike.  There are three different ways that students learn, which are visual learners, kinesthetic learners, or auditory learners. It is important as the teacher in the classroom to understand the different ways that students learn and the different levels at which they learn. After some research, I have found five different learning strategies that I think will help my students be successful in my classroom.

In a math or computer science class, vocabulary is key to understanding any topic that I will be teaching.  Math and computer science are their own languages. It is important to use dual-coding when introducing new vocabulary, by having a visual representation of the word. Using differentiation and cooperative learning, my students will be able to work with other students in order to create projects that are on their level.  Spaced practice will help my students to develop a better understanding of the material by practicing a little bit everyday.  Finally, my students will be able to take responsibility for their own learning by using retrieval practice.  They will be able to ascertain whether they know the information or not.

To sum it all up, these are just five of the learning strategies that I have found.  I feel like these strategies would work the best for my students in my classroom.  It is important, however, for all teachers to be aware and familiar with all learning strategies.  Each group of students is different from year to year. Teachers need to be flexible in order to implement other strategies as the need arises.

  1. Hey James!

Great research on your instructional strategies. I think my favorite out of your list is differentiation. I say this because I ran RTI groups at my campus and my focus was on differentiation. It's time consuming but it is so helpful. I am able to pinpoint and focus on what the student needs. After I'm done with them, they go back to their classroom teacher and are able to participate in whole group lesson. Great job on your post!

  2. Hello, James!

Nice blog theme! Your intro before the table was well written and you got your ideas across very well. Looking at your table, it was my first time learning about "spaced practice"! I guess I just did not know there was a word for what that practice is! I like the other strategies you listed, and how you detailed the student role of them.

    Great work!
